Trip Description & Day-by-day Itinerary
Salt Mountain Lao Cai Hiking Tour is a 2 days 3 nights from from Hanoi. This hike is designed for those who love jungle trek, mountain climb, outdoor activities, adventure travel. If you are fed up with touristy Fansipan mountain because of the cable car, this itinerary may be your best alternative.
NIGHT 1: HANOI -> LAO CAI
Take the overnight train/bus from Hanoi to Lao Cai. Departure at about 21.00; Arrival Lao Cai at about 5.00am (+1).
DAY 1: LAO CAI -> BAT XAT -> MUONG HUM -> SALT MOUNTAIN
Arrive Lao Cai early this morning at about 5.00 AM. Welcome by your Lotussia local team and transfer to Bat Xat, Lao Cai province. After about 2h drive, you arrive Muong Hum commune, Bat Xat district. Breakfast is provided in a local restaurant. The car will drop you off at Sang Ma Sao village. From there you start conquering the Salt Mountain. Follow a trail which runs along mountain side, taking you through bamboo, fruit tree forest. Then this is a rocky trail. Stop by a small stream for picnic lunch.
After lunch, you keep climbing up to the summit of Salt Mountain Vietnam. This portion of the hike is more challenging with more tough climbs. The hiking trail goes mostly along a stream. After about 4 hours, you reach the altitude of 2100m above the sea level. Stop for camping.
DAY 2: MT NUI MUOI -> LAO CAI -> HANOI
Wake up early this morning to continue the climb. The summit of the Salt mountain is the best place to watch the sunrise. The clouds are just on your feet. Make a short stop/rest for taking picture. Then trek downhill to Sang Ma Sao. Arrive back the foot of the mountain around noon, picked up again by your car and taken back to Muong Hum for lunch. After lunch, you will be brought back to Lao Cai for taking the overnight train/bus to get back to Hanoi.
The Salt Mountain
Salt mountain is part of Bach Moc Luong Tu mountain range, which forms a natural boundary between Lai Chau and Lao Cai province. Both the Salt Mountain and Bach Moc Luong Tu mountain are still unfamiliar to both Vietnamese and foreigners.
The Salt mountain has been discovered in 2012, and still remains very mysterious. There are to routes leading up the Salt mountain peak (2800m). The easy route begins from Den Sung, Lai Chau province. The harder route starts from Sang Ma Sao commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. Although the hiking trail is long, it is open and airy, abounding in majestic scenery.
